Baseball's Struggles Continue, Swept by UNW

Roseville, Minn. — Crown baseball's UMAC struggles continued Wednesday when they were swept by Northwestern. These two games mark their seventh and eighth straight UMAC losses to open the season.

In game one, Crown fell early 0-3 to UNW but battled back in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, base running by Seth Betts turned a single into a run, after a steal and advancing to home on an error by the Eagles' centerfielder. In the fifth, Levi Knott singled and stole second, and a Hunter Orozco single up the middle was able to score him, cutting the UNW lead to a single run. Unfortunately, the Eagles began to hit well against Crown starter Gideon Dunn and scored five runs in the next two innings to take an 8-2 lead, which they held for the rest of the game. Hunter Orozco had two scoreless innings pitching (coming in relief for Dunn),  Crown's lone RBI, and was the only Storm player with multiple hits.

In game two, starter Tanner Pruett hoped to steal a game from Northwestern like he did the previous year, but costly errors kept his start short, with four innings and six runs allowed (only two earned). Crown took the lead in the fifth inning when Seth Betts had his second RBI of the game in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. For the second game in a row, UNW pulled away in the late innings to win the game 9-4.

Crown hopes to regain momentum as they head to St. Scholastica for a pair of games on Saturday.
