Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Crown WBB Wins 10 Games for the First Time

St. Bonifacius, Minn. — It was senior night at the Wild Athletic Center on Saturday, and the Crown women's basketball team did something that hadn't been done in the Crown NCAA-era, win their tenth game of a season. Crown coach Kevin Boozikee honored seniors Andrea Besa, Madison Stricklin, and Desiree Davis at halftime of the men's basketball game taking place before the women took the court.

Crown defeated Northland 60-45 in a match that was close in the first half before Crown was able to pull away in the third quarter. The Storm women had an incredibly even day scoring the ball, with no players having more than 12 points, and eight players recording at least five.

Crown's even scoring distribution was mainly due to their smooth passing ability, with an impressive 20 team assists in the game. Crown was led in scoring by senior Desiree Davis who had 12 points, six rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Close behind was Kayla Carter, who had 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, a steal and an incredible four blocks. Four blocks is a season-high for a single woman in a game and is the first time Carter has had multiple blocks in a game this season. Sophomore Stevey De La Ossa scored eight points on 4/5 from the field, one of her most efficient days in her young career.

Damonyka Roberts and Patricia Gibson joined Carter in grabbing seven rebounds in the game. Roberts, Andrea Besa, Madison Stricklin, and Brooke Honeck all had six points in the game, and Gibson only a point behind with five. Besa also added four assists. Crown had an impressive game defensively, holding NC to 34% from the floor while shooting nearly 50% themselves.

Crown is still in the playoff hunt, only two games back from St. Scholastica. However, while they do play the Saints the last week of the season; they need Northland to go to Duluth and win a game to have a chance at securing the five-seed in the UMAC Playoffs next Saturday. Crown faces Martin Luther next Wednesday in New Ulm as they hope to keep their playoff dreams alive.
