ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. --- Crown Women's Basketball team easily won their first game of the season on Friday evening as they played stellar basketball to beat the Faith Baptist Eagles 32-57. Crown held the Eagles to only 17 points in the first three quarters.
Junior forward
Damonyka Roberts led the team in scoring with 14 points in the game, along with five boards, a steal, and two assists. First-year guard
Shauna Thompson had ten points in the game, along with an incredible seven steals. Junior
Marissa Ruf had eight points in the game, third in scoring for the Storm and also grabbed eight boards. Junior post
Patricia Gibson pulled down eight boards to lead the Storm, and
Elizabeth Gross had the Storm's lone blocked shot, on a three-point attempt. Sophomore guard
Brooke Honeck led the team with three assists.Â
"It was refreshing because the whole team contributed," said junior guard
Stevey De La Ossa. "It wasn't just five, it wasn't just one, everybody on the bench played [and] contributed and that's what made it exciting."
De La Ossa was part of a stingy Crown defense that forced 36 turnovers and generated 24 steals. De La Ossa had four, and Honeck had five. Crown held the Eagles to a 25% field goal percentage and a 6% three-point percentage.Â
Crown now heads to North Dakota, with a matchup against Trinity Baptist for a game tomorrow afternoon.Â
