APPLETON, Wis. --- Crown Women's Basketball went on the road Thanksgiving weekend and played a back-to-back against Alverno College and Lawrence University. The Storm women played both teams closer than their opening games, but still couldn't find their first win of the season, falling to Alverno 50-64, and Lawrence 42-68.
Junior
Patricia Gibson had a huge game against Alverno, with a double-double (12 points, 14 rebounds), three blocks and two steals as she made an impact on both sides of the court. First-year
Shauna Thompson had nine points, an early career-high for the guard. Thompson also added three assists and three steals. Junior
Marissa Ruf had eight points in the matchup. Crown struggled shooting from the floor as a whole but did have a bright spot in three-point percentage, making over half of their attempts from behind the arc.
In game two, Crown fell behind quickly to Lawrence, and couldn't regain their footing until late, with almost half of the Storm points coming in the fourth quarter. Junior
Damonyka Roberts led the team with 14 points and also pulled down seven rebounds (but unfortunately fouled out of the game). Gibson once again led the team with eight rebounds, Ruf added eight points and seven boards, and Thompson scored eight in the game. Thompson and sophomore
Brooke Honeck had four steals in the game each.
Next up for the Crown women's basketball team is a matchup with Faith Baptist in St. Bonifacius on Friday.
