Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Defensive Effort Leads Crown Women to 2nd UMAC Win

Ashland, Wis. — Crown women's basketball was able to find their second UMAC victory of the season behind Desiree Davis' 22 points and an impressive defensive effort, holding the Northland Lumberjills under 60 points. Guard Andrea Besa had an incredible seven steals in the match, Davis had five, and post Madison Stricklin had three blocks in the game.

The game did not go without its woes, with Crown coming into the fourth quarter with a ten point lead and having Northland take it away with five minutes left in the game. However, late game baskets by Davis and sophomore Stevey De La Ossa helped to seal the game for the Storm.

Along with Davis' 22 points and five steals, she also added seven rebounds and two assists in the game. With her five steals, she became Crown's all-time leader in steals. Besa had nine points and three assists along with her seven steals. Stricklin had eight points to pair with her three blocks in only 21 minutes. Patricia Gibson was the leading contributor off the bench, with seven points and five rebounds in the match.

Crown won despite shooting only 56% from the free throw line compared to the Lumberjills 95%. Northland made two more free throws than Crown despite Crown shooting ten more attempts. However, Crown shooting 45% from the field and 41% from three-point range compared to Northland's 32% from the field and 23% from behind the arc made the difference in the game.

Crown improves their record to 6-7 and 2-3 in UMAC in play with the Crown women now sitting only a half-game out of a UMAC playoff spot. They look to continue their momentum with a game against Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday at home.
