St. Bonifacius, Minn. — Austin VanDerHeyden had his third straight double-double in UMAC contests as Crown bested UW-Superior on Wednesday night, 77-69. VanDerHeyden scored on incredible efficiency, with 20 points on eight of eleven from the field, and making both of his three-point attempts. He also made all his free-throws on his way to his third double-double in as many games.
Senior Trey Peace had a career night, with 14 points and four rebounds as the point guard found his rhythm with the high-scoring starting lineup. Sophomore Tim Wendel added 14 points, three assists, a steal and a block in the match. Junior Josh Volness only made one of his eight shot attempts but was able to find double figures by going eight of eight from the charity stripe. Sophomore Kole Jusczak discovered his grove after winter break with eight points and three steals in the game. Included in his eight points was his first made three-pointer of the season. First-year Kevin Kim was able to pass the well off the bench with three assists in the game.
Crown improves to 2-2 in the UMAC, while dropping Superior to 1-4. Crown is sitting in a playoff spot currently, with the UMAC Game of the Week against Northland in Wisconsin on Saturday.
