St. Bonifacius, Minn. — Crown women won their third straight in as many games as they improve their record, winning their ninth game of the season. Senior Desiree Davis was the high-point woman for the Storm with 24 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double.
The game was tied at 33 at halftime, and Crown pulled away in the second half with a 19-8 third quarter. However, Finlandia came back and tied it in the fourth, but a late Crown press proved problematic for the Lions, as Crown was able to find a way to win, beating Finlandia 69-62.
Sophomore Damonyka Roberts had 12 points, five rebounds, and two steals as she had her career-high in points, her second ever game in double figures. Senior Andrea Besa was also in double figures with eleven points and also led the team with three assists; Besa also pulled down four rebounds. Sophomore Stevey De La Ossa scored seven points, and junior Kayla Carter scored six as Crown scored 17 or more points in each of the last three periods.
Madison Stricklin struggled from the field but found other ways to contribute with six rebounds, two blocks, and three steals. This win is the first time in NCAA-era history where Crown is .500 or better 18 games into the season, and they hope to continue their winning streak on Saturday against North Central at home. The Crown women beat North Central when they met earlier this season and with a win and a UM-Morris loss, they would be tied for the five-seed in the UMAC Playoff picture.
