Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Crown Women Beat Northwestern for the First Time

St. Bonifacius, Minn. — In a day of many firsts, Crown's women's basketball team was able to beat Northwestern for the first time in school history as they came back in the fourth quarter for a win. Crown held the Eagles to nine points in the final period to get the UMAC upset.

Desiree Davis was the game's leading scorer despite struggling with foul trouble early in the game, scoring 15 points for the Storm. She was the only scorer in the game in double figures. Davis was additionally their leader in passing with six assists and had three steals in the match. Stevey De La Ossa and Madison Stricklin both scored eight points for the Storm as they were able to get their mid-range shots to fall, and senior Andrea Besa had four assists and three steals. Patricia Gibson was only a rebound short of double figures, with nine boards in the contest.

It was a defensive matchup as one would expect between two of the better defensive teams in the conference, and Northwestern showed their defensive prowess with seven blocks in the game. Both sides shot around 40% from the field, with Northwestern taking a slight edge, but the difference came in rebounding with Crown out-rebounding the Eagles 36-25, despite a distinct height advantage for Northwestern.

The Crown women hope to continue their momentum with a game against Finlandia on Friday and facing North Central on Saturday as they sit one spot out of the UMAC Playoffs.
