Morris, Minn. — Crown's football team attempted to spoil Morris' homecoming on Saturday after beating Morris last year at Crown's 100th-anniversary homecoming game last year. Unfortunately, Crown fell to the Cougars 7-17 this year for the Cougars' first win of the season.
The Cougars scored first on their opening drive as quarterback Masloski ran for a 70-yard score to start the game. Crown responded late in the first quarter, as quarterback
Taylor Watkins ran for a four-yard score, capping a 14-play, 73-yard drive.
Morris responded in the early second quarter with a touchdown drive of six plays and 85 yards, gaining a 14-7 lead. They held that lead for the rest of the game, scoring a field goal in the third quarter as scoring ended for the match. Morris took home the victory 7-17.
Senior quarterback
Taylor Watkins led the Crown passing attack with 144 yards through the air. He was also the team's leading rusher with 59 yards gained on twelve attempts and had Crown's lone touchdown on the ground. Freshman running back
Derek Chilcoate was close behind with 57 yards rushing against the Cougars on 16 attempts. Sophomore receiver
David McIntosh added to his impressive season with 84 yards on five receptions. McIntosh now has 409 yards in five games this season.
Defensively, first-year
Jeremiah Jones once again led the defense with ten tackles. Junior
Alex Banks had the most tackles for loss on the team with two and broke up a pass in the contest. Fellow junior
Dasean Riley also broke up a Cougar pass in the game.
Crown returns home after two road games next weekend to face the UMAC-affiliate Greenville team, next Saturday at noon.
