Edlund Has 17 Tackles, Crown Falls to GU 6-59

St. Bonifacius, Minn. — The Crown football team faced the UMAC-affiliate Greenville University at KleinBank Stadium Saturday afternoon, and Greenville dominated from start to finish, winning the game 59-6. Crown held the Panthers to a field goal on their first drive, but on Crown's ensuing drive Greenville returned a muffed snap into a touchdown and Crown's momentum was zapped. Penalties significantly hurt Crown this match, with 13 of them for 148 yards.

Crown's lone score came at the beginning of the second quarter when senior quarterback Taylor Watkins found sophomore receiver David McIntosh for the 24-yard touchdown. McIntosh had 51 of his 57 receiving yards on the Storm scoring drive.

Watkins led the team in passing in the game, going 11 of 21 for 131 yards and one touchdown, two interceptions. Fellow senior quarterback Ryan Synoground was 3 of 7 for 37 yards, and first-year Luke Lithander completed his first pass of his collegiate career with a 28-yard throw to Marlon Brown late in the fourth for Crown's longest play of the game.

First-year back Derek Chilcoate led the team in rushing yards once again with 21 rushing yards. McIntosh led the team in receiving yards with 54.

Defensively, junior Luke Edlund led the Storm defense with an incredible 17 tackles, one away from breaking the record for most Crown tackles in the game set by Brandon Green in 2009. Sophomore Cody Ricketts also had 14 tackles in the game and a team-leading two tackles for loss. Sophomore Hunter Orozco had Crown's only turnover when he forced a fumble recovered by first-year Jesse Synoground. Junior Daniel Lee had the single Storm sack in the game for a nine-yard Panther loss.

Crown will continue to seek their first win of the season as they head to Fulton, Mo. next Saturday for a game against the UMAC-affiliate Westminster.
