Jones Has Defensive Score in 15-56 Loss to WC

Fulton, Mo. — Crown's football team traveled to Missouri this weekend to face the UMAC-affiliate Westminster Blue Jays. While remaining close early, the Jays pulled away in the second half, taking the game 56-15.

In the first quarter, Westminster struck first with a touchdown on their opening drive. Crown returned the favor with a touchdown of their own, with Derek Chilcoate finding the end zone to cap a ten play, 84-yard drive. Crown forced a three and out on the next possession and then had their longest drive of the season, a ten-minute trek featuring 19 plays and gaining 96 yards; Crown went up 9-6 after Corey Huard made a field goal to end the drive. However, while Crown took ten minutes to drive down the field, it only took the Blue Jays 1:11 as they retook the lead on a 53-yard run by their quarterback. Starting there, Westminster scored 27-straight points, only stopped when Jeremiah Jones took a fumble recovery back for a touchdown. After that, the Jays scored twice for good measure, winning the game 56-15.

Offensively, first-year quarterback Luke Lithander made his starting debut, going 13 for 33 with 130 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. First-year running back Damien Jeffries led the team rushing with 55 yards on 13 attempts. Anthony Laureno and David McIntosh led the team in receiving yards, both with 33 in the match.

Defensively, Dasean Riley led the team with six solo tackles. Alex Banks, Tyler Byrd, Dylan Krump, and Daniel Lee all had tackles for a loss with Banks recording a sack and Byrd forcing a fumble in the contest. After Byrd's forced fumble, it was linebacker Jeremiah Jones that returned the fumble 48 yards for the touchdown. Sebastian Alvarado had Crown's other turnover in the game, an interception. Additionally, Brian Howard had a blocked extra-point in the game.

Crown comes home and begins to prepare for a game next week against UMAC powerhouse St. Scholastica.
