Eureka, Ill. — On a hot day in Eureka, Illinois, the Crown men played a UMAC game against affiliate Eureka College. Crown held with Eureka through the first quarter, but from there on out the Red Devils pulled away, scoring 37 consecutive points. Crown scored two touchdowns late, but it wasn't enough as they fell to Eureka 20-44.
After an early score by Eureka, Crown was able to answer on a three play, 66-yard drive, highlighted by senior quarterback
Taylor Watkins finding sophomore receiver
David McIntosh in the end zone for a tying touchdown.
Unfortunately, after that touchdown Crown's offense stalled after that until the fourth quarter. It was the second and third quarters where the scoring picked up for the Red Devils with a 37-zero run during the two periods.
McIntosh had the biggest day receiving wise, with 137 yards on two touchdowns. He had the longest play of the game for the Storm with his 51-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter. However, 65 yards and one touchdown that McIntosh had were on the final three possessions of the Storm, with the Red Devils sitting comfortable, up 31.
First-year running back
Derek Chilcoate led Crown in rushing with 54 yards and a touchdown, with a 31-yarder his longest carry of the day. Watkins led Crown in passing with 179 yards and two touchdowns on nine completions out of 25 attempts.
Defensively, first-year
Jeremiah Jones once again led the Storm in tackles, with 14 in the game. Sophomore
Cody Ricketts also was in the double digits with 11 tackles, including a tackle for a loss. Sophomore
Robel Ezana had a sack in the game. Junior
Dasean Riley led Crown with two passes broken up. The Crown defense had eight tackles for loss, with an impressive eleven different players credited with the tackles.
Crown hopes to find the right track with an away game against the Univerity of Minnesota-Morris, who Crown beat in their homecoming game a year before.
