#21 Wartburg's Game Winner Ruins Crown's Upset Bid

Waverly, Iowa — In a game that went the way few expected, Crown and #21 Wartburg battled in the first round of the Buzz Levick tournament on Friday night. Sophomore Tim Wendel and junior Josh Volness both hit five three-pointers in an attempt to upset the ranked Iowa school on their home court. Unfortunately, Cam Kickbush's three-pointer with eleven seconds left in the game put the Knights up three, and Crown was unable to find a quality three-point look in return, with Volness' deep attempt blocked at the buzzer.

Wendel led the scoring for Crown with 23 points on only 13 shots, making five threes on nine attempts and shooting 100% from the free throw line. Wendel also led the team's defensive effort with three blocks in the game. Junior Josh Volness had an incredibly efficient effort offensively, with eight assists and 19 points on 13 shots, also five of nine from three-point range. First-year Christian Moore had his first high-impact game, leading the team in rebounds (8) and steals (2), and scoring 15 points (three of six from three). Senior Austin VanDerHeyden scored nine points and had five rebounds in his limited action due to foul trouble.

Torry Ledin, Kevin Kim, and D'Andre Caster all had impacts in their second game for the Storm. Ledin had eight points on three of four shooting, Kim had six points on two of four shooting, and Caster had four assists and three points.

Crown faces Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday at 2 pm in the consolation game of the Buzz Levick tournament. Wartburg moves on to face Aurora at 4 pm. Iowa Wesleyan, while not in the UMAC for men's basketball, is in the conference for football as an affiliate.
