Menomonie, Wis. — Crown men's basketball team held with UW-Stout today, but couldn't find a way to win, falling to the WIAC school 75-79. Both teams both made 28 field goals in the game, but the difference came from the 17 of 19 free throws made by the Blue Devils.
Sophomore Timothy Wendel, who won UMAC freshman of the year last season led the Crown scoring with 24 points on 8 of 15 from the field, with four made three-pointers in the game. He also had two assists and a block to round out his stellar opening night performance.
Senior post Austin VanDerHeyden had 18 points on only 13 shots, and team-highs five assists and two blocks in the match. Junior Josh Volness was close behind VanDerHeyden in scoring with 15 points and made three three-pointers in the game. Senior Trey Peace, starting at the point, led the team with eleven rebounds and matched VanDerHeyden's team-leading five assists.
Crown men's basketball next goes to the Wartburg Tournmanet this weekend.
