Women Find Coveted First Win of Season

St. Bonifacius, Minn. — It was Nemo Night tonight at the Wild Athletic Center, which worked out well for the Crown women, who's season could be summarized by Finding Nemo's "just keep swimming, just keep swimming." Their hard work despite their early season woes paid off tonight as they won their first game of the season, beating Finlandia 57-53. Crown's season was exemplified in this evening's game, taking the lead for the first time in the fourth quarter (where they outscored Finlandia 18-8 to earn the victory).

Junior Andrea Besa led the team in all categories except blocks, with ten points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, while only gathering one turnover on the way.

The team had a balanced scoring night, with seven points coming from four players including senior Molly Greenfield, sophomore Kayla Carter, junior Madison Stricklin, and freshman Ava Szczyrbak. Stricklin had a great overall game with six rebounds and two blocks in addition to the seven points. Senior Nicole Kucza also added six points. Eleven players recorded points in the match.

It was the debut of freshman Mariah Douville, who had three points in 15 minutes in her first game as a member of the Storm.

Crown next plays on Saturday at 3 pm when Northland College comes to St. Bonifacius.
