Duluth, Minn. - The Crown men were in Duluth on Friday night, facing one of the top teams in the UMAC, St. Scholastica. Crown suffered a rough first half and was losing at one point by 24 in the first half. For a team that has never won at the Reif (0-18), the odds certainly were stacked against them.
However, Crown's men battled back, with second half shooting percentages shooting up from 44% to 58% (and 29% to 70% from three-point range). On the other side of the ball, Crown's defense stepped up as well limiting their shooting percentage from a 51% first half mark to a poor 26% (with no made threes in the second half and missed their last 11 three-point attempts). Crown outscored St. Scholastica 48-26 in the second half to steal the win in Duluth, 84-77.
Crown had some impressive performances, including the two post players, freshman
Timothy Wendel and junior
Austin VanDerHeyden. Wendel had an incredible line of 25/8/5 on 5/9 shooting from three. VanDerHeyden also had 23/8/5 with an impressive four blocks to help lead Crown to victory. Freshman
Kole Jusczak had his career high with 12 points on the night. Sophomore
Josh Volness added his ninth double-digit scoring night with 10 points.
Crown next plays tonight against Wisconsin-Superior in Superior tonight at 5 pm.
