St. Paul, Minn. – Crown College's football team rolled to a dominating victory to open conference play against Martin Luther on Saturday.
Sophomore quarterback
Taylor Watkins (Spokane, Wash./East Valley) performed well with 15/27 for 160 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. The primary beneficiary of Watkins' performance was junior receiver
Thomas Andrews (Keller, Texas/Fossil Ridge), who had 122 of the 160 yards, and both touchdowns.
The running game for Crown was also in full force, led by senior backs
Josh Edlund (Crookston/Crookston) and
Matt Michaud (Woodbury/New Life Academy). Edlund had 109 yards and two touchdowns, and Michaud added 81 yards and another touchdown.
The defense had a great team performance, only allowing 2.9 yards a play and no points. Senior defensive lineman
Jalen Phoenix (Cincinnati, Ohio/Landmark Christian) was a star for the defense, with four tackles for loss. Sophomore defensive tackle
Tyler Byrd (Montevallo, Ala./Evangel Christian School) also brought defensive pressure with 1.5 sacks.
Crown College looks to continue this momentum at St. Scholastica, 1 pm next Saturday.
