Waconia, Minn. – After dropping two games to the Northwestern Eagles on Tuesday, Crown was seeking some redemption in the grudge match on Wednesday afternoon. They turned to junior right-hander
Ryan Denison who is still working his way back from injury. He would not disappoint turning in a gem from the mound pitching 7 innings and scattering two hits and two runs, striking out five, but walking six. Unfortunately for the Storm, they would let one get away from them with a couple of costly errors in the 8
th inning allowing the Eagles to come back and steal one 5-4.
Crown built a 2-0 lead with some good defense and timely hitting with an RBI single from
Dalton Wintersole and a sacrifice fly from
Kress Medina. After the Eagles scored one, the Storm would tack on two more in the 6
th with an RBI single from
Luke Meyer and another RBI from Medina. The Eagles would tie it up in the 8
th as an errant throw cost the Storm one run, and a wild pitch would score another. The Eagles completed the comeback in the top of the 9
th with an RBI single to win the game.
Crown was led offensively by Wintersole and Medina as they outhit the Eagles 11 to six. The four errors marred a phenomenal effort defensively, and the Storm also hit into two ground ball double plays that killed good chances to tack on more runs.
