St. Paul, Minn. – The Crown baseball team was defeated by the red hot offense of the Northwestern Eagles on Tuesday night, losing 17-9 and 18-0 in a UMAC doubleheader. After a back and forth game one that saw the Eagles take the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh, the Storm lost in a landslide in game two.
Game one saw the two teams trade the lead numerous times before Northwestern blew the game open in the bottom of the eighth with seven runs. Only seven of the 17 runs allowed by Crown were earned, but the pitching staff walked 10 batters, combining with six errors to lead to a tough day in the field.
David Cruz and
David Sherwood each hit three run homers, and
Dalton Wintersole went 3-4 with a pair of doubles in the loss.
Harry Ballantyne added two RBI to his team best two runs scored.
Game two featured three big innings from the home team, with the Eagles scoring six runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings. Crown was held to five hits and two walks in seven innings.
The two teams will face off today (Wednesday) in a single non-conference game at 3 p.m. in Waconia.
