Duluth, Minn. - The Women's Basketball team came into Saturday's game against St Scholastica after two hard losses against Northwestern and UW-Superior. They were looking to get their second win in conference and play better against a middle of the UMAC Saint's team. Although they did not get the win, Crown showed some grit and determination battling back from a large deficit only to lose by a final score of 67-63.
Crown got off to a slow start and found themselves down by 12 at the end of the first quarter, but
Desiree Davis was not going to let another big loss happen. Crown outscored the Saints 19-13 in the second quarter to cut the Saints' lead down to 6 at half time. Â Davis had 9 points in the second quarter to bring Crown back. Â
Balanced scoring in the third quarter kept Crown close in the game. At the end of the 3
rd quarter, Crown was only down by five. Â For the first half of the fourth quarter, St Scholastica came out firing and extended the lead to 13. but
Miranda Brueggeman and
Desiree Davis would not let Crown go away easily both contributing to a 14-2 run to bring Crown within one with 35 seconds left in the game. Brueggeman hit her only two threes of the game during that stretch. Crown missed a couple of baskets within the last 35 seconds and St Scholastica made their free throws to give them the 67-63 win.
Crown was led in scoring by
Desiree Davis with 21 points and 6 rebounds.
Jessica Klaustermeier had 10 points and
Miranda Brueggeman had 8 points. Crown got great production from the bench who gave them 36 points.
Crown next games will be at Finlandia and Northland next Friday and Saturday.
