St. Bonifacius, Minn. — Crown's men's basketball official season started on Friday evening against Macalester at the Wild Athletic Center followed by an away game at Concordia-Moorhead. After a slow start followed by a huge second half, Crown wasn't able to overcome the MIAC's Macalester, falling to them 71-79.
Crown had a slow start to that game, falling behind 0-10 and being outscored 35-20 in the first half. However, a second-half 51 point surge led by freshman
Timothy Wendel caused Crown to make it a ball game before ultimately falling to Macalester. Crown shot an impressive 47.6% from three, going 8-11 in the second half from downtown.
Wendel led the team with 30 points in 33 minutes, shooting 8-12 from the field and an impressive 6-7 from three-point range. Senior
Jordan Whitcomb scored the second most for Crown with 11 points on 4-4 shooting (2-2 from three). Senior
James Brown and Whitcomb led the team in rebounds with six each. Senior
Trey Peace led the team in assists with four in the game.
Crown then went on the road on Saturday night, going to the campus of Concordia-Moorhead. Crown once again got off to a slow start but wasn't able to pull this game as close, falling to Concordia 64-88. Junior
Austin VanDerHeyden was the leading scorer with 13 points, Wendel close behind with 12. Wendel and Brown led the team in rebounds with four apiece.
Crown next plays on Saturday at 2 pm away in an exhibition game against Western Illinois.
