Baseball Loses Two to Cougars

Cologne, Minn. – The Crown College baseball team welcomed Morris to their home field in Cologne, Minnesota for a double header on Wednesday afternoon.  Crown had previously beaten the Cougars 6-5 earlier in the season but lost both games on Wednesday 8-6 and 18-6.

Crown struck first in the bottom of the first scoring of a Harry Ballantyne double to go up 1-0.  Morris would build 6-1 through the top of the fifth inning when Trent Krekelberg brought in two RBIs on a single to left center to make the score 6-3.

Crown would close the distance more in the seventh when Dalton Wintersole hit a two run homerun to right field to make the score 6-5.  Crown would tie in the bottom of the eighth when Wintersole singled to bring in Ballantyne.  Morris would have the answer though with a two run homerun of their own in the top of the ninth to provide the final score of 8-6.

Ryan Denison pitched in the loss but only three of the runs allowed of his were earned.  Crown stranded 12 runners on base and committed four errors hindering their chance at a win.

Game two saw the Storm jump out to a 6-0 lead through two innings on the back of two home runs by David Cruz in the first inning and Joel Silva in the second inning.  Morris would come alive later in the game though outscoring Crown 18-0 the rest of the way including a 10 run inning in the top of the sixth.

Cruz went two for two to lead Crown as Daryl Taylor also had two RBIs to tie Cruz for the team lead.  Brandon Hudson pitched in the loss allowing eleven hits and nine earned runs.

Crown will travel to Duluth, Minnesota this weekend for a double header with St. Scholastica.
