Winter Haven, Fla. – The Crown baseball team suffered two heartbreaking losses in day two of their spring break trip to Florida yesterday. Crown was defeated by scores of 4-3 and 6-5 by Utica College, with both games being decided in the final inning.
Game one saw the Storm tie things at 3-3 on sacrifice flies by
Harry Ballantyne and
Daryl Taylor in the fifth inning. That score would hold until Utica was able to push across a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to win in walk-off fashion.
Game two had Crown in the lead heading into the final frame. A pair of RBI from both Joel Silva and Taylor, as well as an RBI single from
Hunter Foss had the Storm staked to a 5-4 advantage. Utica would once again prevail, however, pushing across two runs (one earned) in the top of the seventh before setting down the Storm 1-2-3 in the bottom half to earn their second consecutive one run victory.
With off days set for Wednesday and Thursday, the Storm will return to action on Friday with a double-header against Lawrence College.
