Box Score 2 St. Bonifacius, Minn. - Crown College took to the road this weekend for a pair of nonconference games against Macalester College in St. Paul on Friday night and Maranatha Baptist in Watertown, Wisconsin on Saturday as their season continued. On Friday night, Crown was doomed by a sluggish first half against the Scots as even though they outscored the Scots in the second half, they fell 71-53. On Saturday, Crown found themselves on the wrong side of an 81-77 score that featured seven ties and four lead changes.
Macalester - Crown found themselves down 42-21 at half after a 25.81% shooting performance could not keep up with the Scots who shot 53.1% from the field. Crown was also outrebounded 47-34 and gave up 12 offensive rebounds. Crown did limit their turnovers with only 14.
James Brown and
Josh Volness led the way with 11 points a piece while
Austin VanDerHeyden contributed nine points and eight rebounds.
Maranatha - Tied at 58-58 in the second half, Maranatha used an 8-1 run to break open the tight game and Crown was never able to regain the lead after that. The teams had identical stats in many shooting categories, but Crown did give up 15 offensive rebounds to Maranatha leading to 13 second chance points. Brown had 23 points while VanDerHeyden had a double double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Seth Moan and Volness also reached double figures with 18 and 13 respectively.
Crown's next contest in Tuesday, November 24th against Augsburg College at home.
