Box Score Eureka, Ill. – The Crown College Storm took to the road for a UMAC contest this Saturday against the Eureka College Red Devils in Eureka, Illinois. Crown was looking to bounce back after a close loss last Saturday, but found themselves on the losing end of anther close game, coming up just short in a 29-26 final. The last two games for the Storm were decided by seven points combined.
Crown struck first after a fumble caused by
Eli Dahl was recovered by
Cody Ricketts. Crown would score three plays later on a three yard run by
Josh Edlund that was set up by a huge catch by
Ben Olson that put the Storm deep in Eureka territory.
Eureka would answer to even the game up at 7-7, but the Crown offense had an answer, embarking on a nine play, 69 yard drive capped off by a three yard run by
Matt Michaud. The drive was highlighted by three
Brandon McCormick to
Trey Peace completions.
Both teams would go silent until midway through the second quarter when Eureka used a 13 play, 83 yard drive to go up 15-14 after a two point conversion. That would be the score at intermission as both teams failed to score on their final drives of the half.
Eureka scored first in the second half to go up 22-14 before Crown would get the offense rolling again. Another huge completion to Olson for 41 yards would set up the first of McCormick's touchdown passes to his brother
Nick McCormick from 10 yards out to bring Crown within 22-20 after the failed two point conversion. Crown would get the ball back and score on the next drive on a huge third and goal pass from McCormick to
Terrell Thomas to go up 26-22.
Crown got the ball back on a forced fumble by Ricketts but unfortunately turned the ball over themselves on an interception. Eureka capitalized on a fourth down on the ensuing drive for the go ahead score 29-26. With a chance to win on the final drive, Crown got a couple of first downs before a fourth down pass fell incomplete.
Crown will return home for their final home game against MacMurray College of Illinois next Saturday. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Storm.
