Crown Women Win in Final Seconds

St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Crown College Women's Basketball team played two more conference home games this weekend as the Northwestern Eagles and North Central Rams both traveled to the Wild Athletic Center. Friday night's game saw a competitive contest against Northwestern with Crown unable to overcome a large first half deficit losing by a final score of 74-55. Saturday's game was a different story as Crown played a back and forth contest with the Rams winning the game in the final 20 seconds 57-55.

UNW - Crown found themselves down by as much as 24 in the first half as the experience Eagles shot 10-16 from three point land in the first half. However, the second half was a different story as Crown's defense tightened up holding Northwestern to 2-14 from three in the second half. Jessica Klaustermeier led Crown with 20 points while Desiree Davis had eight points, nine rebounds, and six steals. Crown only shot 29.2% from the field and 15.4% from three.

NCU - Crown and North Central played an exciting game in this foul plagued, back and forth affair. The game featured eight lead changes and five separate tie ball games as both teams struggled to shoot from the field. Crown was down four points with two minutes left when Leah Breakfield stole an open field pass and made a layup to cut the lead to two. After a couple of turnovers, Andrea Besa came up big with a huge steal and Breakfield scored the tying basket on an inbounds pass. Crown played staunch defense and Davis hit two huge free throws with 18 seconds left to lift Crown to a 57-55 win as the defense held down the stretch.  Klaustermeier notched 24 points in the win.
