St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Crown College Men's Basketball team played two more conference games this weekend against the Northwestern Eagles and the North Central Rams. On Friday night, Crown battled against Northwestern, but was not able to overcome a 14 point first half deficit as they fell 67-54. On Saturday night, Crown looked like a different team scoring 99 points in a win over North Central in exciting fashion.
UNW - Down 15-14 with roughly nine minutes remaining in the first half, Crown was outscored 19-6 over the rest of the half to find themselves down 34-20 at the half. Crown cut the lead to nine a couple of times, but could not come up with the extra stops and buckets necessary to cut the lead any smaller. Crown was led by
James Brown with 19 points and
Austin VanDerHeyden with 12 points and six rebounds.
NCU - Crown never looked back in this game scoring 48 points in the first half, six short of the game total the previous night. Crown hit on 59.3% of the shot attempts including 13-22 threes. They also had 24 assists on a night that looked like vintage Crown offensive basketball. Crown had five players reach double figures including Brown with a career high 35 including five of eight from three. VanDerHeyden chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds,
Tom Messner had 13 points and six assists, and
Roland Owczarek and
Chad Anenson both had 11 points to round out the scoring for a great team effort.
