Box Score 2 St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Crown College Women's basketball team took to the road this weekend to play two more UMAC games against the Knights of Martin Luther and the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran. Crown showed many marked signs of improvement but still suffered two defeats losing 68-49 on Friday night to Martin Luther and 68-66 to Bethany Lutheran on Saturday.
Martin Luther- Crown statistically outplayed the Knights in many facets Friday night getting up more shots and turning over the ball less than the Knights. However, the Knights made five more shots (24) than the Storm (19) on nine less shot attempts. Crown shot only 1-12 from beyond the arc while Mariah Schoof of Martin Luther had a career night going 6-9 from beyond the arc by herself.
Three players reached double figures for the Storm as
Desiree Davis had 12,
Leah Breakfield had 11, and
Jessica Klaustermeier chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds. Crown turned the ball over 21 times to Martin Luther's 28 turnovers, but the Knights outrebounded the Storm 42-36.
Bethany Lutheran- This game was extremely competitive from start to finish as both teams were evenly matched. Bethany opened a slight lead over the Storm at half up 31-29 at the break. Crown played close throughout the second half and found themselves down 67-62 with 1:46 left. After a Davis jumper to narrow it to 67-64, Crown got a steal by Davis and layup from
Andrea Besa to come within one point 67-66. After a Viking free throw to make the score 68-66, Davis had a shot to win it missing a shot with four seconds left as Klaustermeier got the rebound leading to a missed shot by Besa to lose by a final of 68-66.
Klaustermeier led with 18 points while Besa had her best offensive performance with 15 points and four assists. Davis chipped in six points and a season high seven assists.
