Box Score 2 St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Crown College Men continued their 2015 UMAC campaign on the road this weekend against UMAC members Martin Luther College and Bethany Lutheran College. Unfortunately for Crown, their slide continued as they fell 73-56 on Friday night to Martin Luther and 68-64 on Saturday to Bethany Lutheran.
Martin Luther- Crown dug themselves a 41-22 deficit at halftime shooting a paltry 7-28 from the floor in the first half. The Storm were never able to overcome the poor start as the deficit swelled anywhere from 18-29 throughout the course of the second half. Crown finished the game shooting 31.5% from the field and only 7-26 from beyond the arc.
Tom Messner was the points leader with 13 while
Roland Owczarek reached double figures as well with 12.
James Brown had a double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds but shot well below his season average going 4-13 from the field.
Bethany Lutheran- The Storm would open this game on a great pace opening up a 31-26 halftime lead behind
Austin VanDerHeyden who posted a double double in the first twenty minutes of play with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The second half was a back and forth affair as both teams took the lead multiple times. Crown took a 64-63 lead on
James Brown's jump shot, but quickly had the lead taken from them on a jumper by the Vikings to go down 65-64. After a Viking free throw amde it 66-64,
Tom Messner missed a three point attempt and
Chad Anenson's put-back attempt was blocked, sealing the game for the hosts.
VanDerHeyden posted a huge game inside with 18 points and 18 rebounds and four blocks. Â Brown hit double-figures again, with 15 points, and
Tom Messner had 14 points including 4-5 from three point land.
