St. Bonifacius, Minn. - Playing in the fifth game of the season, Crown welcomed the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers to KleinBank Stadium for another UMAC contest. Crown looked much improved over the last four games of the season, but the result did not change as Crown fell to the Tigers 27-19 in a tough loss for the Storm.
Jalen Phoenix put Crown on the board in the second quarter with a strip sack which he picked up and returned 31 yards for a score to put Crown down 7-6 after a failed point after attempt. Both teams exchanged scores before halftime as Crown trailed 14-12 heading into the break.
Crown jumped out on top right after half with an eight play, 65 yard drive capped off by a
Matt Michaud touchdown to take the lead 19-14. On the ensuing possession, a mistake on special teams cost Crown what could have been a three and out as a fake punt led to a 57 yard touchdown for the Tigers to put them up 20-19.
Crown once again made too many mistakes coughing the ball up twice in the second half, and snapping the ball over the punter's head leading to the deciding score for the Tigers as they squeaked out a 27-19 win in a game that Crown gave away in the fourth quarter.
Zach Jusczak had a monster game with 17 tackles while fellow defensive lineman
Drew Zoromski had 13 stops, a fumble recovery, and a blocked field goal. The fumble recovery was the fourth of his career, setting a new Crown record. Michaud added two touchdowns on the ground, a mark that puts him third in the conference in that category.
Crown will travel to Greenville College in Illinois for their next game.
