John Auer

Head Coach John Auer is entering his 16th season as the head coach of the Storm.  Since Auer arrived for the 2000 season, Crown College has experience its most successful period of time.  Taking over a program that only had 29 on the roster at the time, Coach Auer increased the roster size and competitiveness immediately.  Coach Auer’s most successful years came from 2007-2010 where the team posted a 21-17 record and played for UMAC championships in 2008 and 2010.

Coach Auer sees coaching at Crown as more than an opportunity to teach young men about the game of football.  He says “Through accountability and some tough love, I want each man to grow spiritually, academically, socially, and athletically to make their life after college football immeasurably better.  I can’t imagine coaching anywhere else but Crown where I have the chance to impact young men for Christ through the most amazing game on earth.”

Auer came to Crown from St. Cloud State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Coaching in 1995 and followed with his Master of Science in Sports Management while serving as a Graduate Assistant.  Auer then took over the offensive line duties for the Huskies, spending six seasons working with two All-Americans and seven All-Conference offensive linemen/tight ends.

Auer played collegiately at Winona State University as a defensive end from 1989-1992.  He attended Osseo High School where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball.  He and his wife Kristen currently reside in Maple Grove, and have two daughters, Kaitlyn and Kelli.
