Polars Battle Cougars in Tuesday Night UMAC Matchup

St. Bonifacius, MN — Crown volleyball returned to its home court Tuesday night looking to build on its strong start to conference play, but the Polars were held off by the University of Minnesota Morris in a 3-0 UMAC match up.

The Polars entered the night at 5-4 overall and 1-0 in conference action after sweeping North Central to open the UMAC schedule. Facing a tough Morris squad, Crown looked to keep its momentum rolling in front of the home crowd.

The opening set featured a competitive start, with the Polars staying within striking distance midway through the frame. Crown trailed 14-10 before Morris used a five-point rally to create separation. The Cougars carried that momentum to a 25-17 win in the first set. Morris continued to apply pressure in the second set, taking control and earning a 25-15 win to move ahead 2-0 in the match. With their backs against the wall, the Polars continued to battle in the third. Crown fought through extended rallies and worked to slow the Cougars' attack, but Morris was able to close out the match with another 25-15 set victory.

Freshmen hitters Lily Duquaine and Lauren Burnett provided a bright spot for the Polars, combining for 19 kills on the night. Veteran Alyssa Heagney added three service aces, continuing to give Crown production from the service line.

Crown's UMAC schedule continues with a full week of conference matches. The Polars will host Martin Luther on Friday at 7 p.m. before welcoming Bethany Lutheran on Saturday at 1 p.m.
