Ellendale, N.D. — The women's basketball team began play at the NCCAA Division II Regional Tournament hosted by Trinity Bible College on Monday as they faced off against Faith Baptist. The Polars won their first game to move on in the regional tournament, 67–56.
Crown got out to a huge 21–9 lead in the first quarter with all five starters entering the scoring column. Faith Baptist fought back in the second quarter to bring the deficit down to one, with the score at 29–28.
The Polars extended the lead again in the third quarter, winning the frame 17–11 behind 10 points from Morgan Bednarek. A seven‑point lead going into the fourth quarter was brought down to as little as four, but the Polars rebuilt their advantage to take an 11‑point victory, 67–56.
Morgan Bednarek tallied another double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds. She did this on efficient shooting, going 10–12 from the floor and a perfect 6–6 from the free‑throw line. Brayli Reimer had 13 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds with 3 steals. Avery Youngblood scored 6 points on 2–3 shooting from three.
The Polars move on in the tournament and will play the top seed, Providence University College, on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. Crown hosts the National Tournament next week, so the Polars get an automatic bid regardless of their result at the Regional Tournament.
