St. Bonifacius, MN — Crown women's soccer battled to a hard-earned 1-1 draw against the University of Minnesota Morris on Tuesday night in a key UMAC match up.
The match lived up to the billing from the opening whistle, with both teams fighting to be the first to break through. After a competitive first half, the Polars found their moment just before the break. With just three minutes remaining in the half, Eva Starkey found the back of the net off an assist from Layla Kerr to give Crown a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Polars worked to protect the narrow advantage as Morris pressed for the equalizer. Crown stayed strong defensively for much of the night while continuing to look for chances to add to its lead.
The Cougars eventually broke through in the final two minutes, scoring late to even the match at 1-1. Despite the late setback, Crown still came away with an important point in conference play after a strong performance in a crucial match up.
With the draw, Crown now sits at 2-2-4 in UMAC play and will travel with the men's soccer team this weekend for a match up against the Yellowjackets at 7 p.m.
