Polars Baseball Drops Saturday Doubleheader to Cougars

St. Peter, Minn. - The Polars baseball team faced off with Minnesota Morris on Saturday and fell in game one 12-4 and 16-3. 

Game one saw the Cougars jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the top half of the 2nd inning. Crown answered with two runs of their own after a Tyler Bloom double and a few walks. The top of the 3rd proved to hurt the Polars, after a grand slam the Cougars took the 8-2 lead and never looked back taking down the Polars 12-4. 

Tyler Bloom tallied 3 hits and 2 RBI's in 5 at bats. Drew Girtz tabbed a multi-hit effort as well. Aidan Volk-Specht pitched 3 innings and allowed 8 runs with just 1 being earned. Phillipp Jackson, John Brew, and Cole Vahovick all pitched for Crown. 

Game two saw Crown get out to an early lead after hits from Girtz, Kyler Thruston, and Bryan Gerbers to start the game taking the 3-0 lead. The Cougars answered scoring 1 run in the 4th inning and scored 7 runs in the 6th inning to take the lead back 8-3. The Cougars tabbed 4 more runs taking the 12-3 lead and took down Crown 16-3. 

Crown totaled 5 hits in the contest with five different Polars earning one hit each. Ryan Vondracek got the start for the Polars and pitched 5.2 innings allowing 5 earned runs. Danny Gallardo came in to pitch in relief as well as Charlie Joyce and Michael Escalante.  

Crown falls to 5-9 on the season and 1-2 in UMAC play and heads on the road to take on Gustavus Adolphus on Monday, March 24th for a doubleheader starting at 2pm.
