St. Bonifacius, Minn. - The Polars women's basketball team opened there season at home Friday hosting the Dutch from Central College. The Dutch shot the lights out defeating the Polars by a score of 52-72.
The Polars fell behind early as Central came out of the gates hot, shooting over 55% from the field and and over 70% from three in the first quarter. The Polars were unable to keep pace and ended the first quarter behind 28-13. The second quarter was closer as Crown found some momentum on the defensive end holding the dutch to just 31% from the field. The score was 42-26 Dutch heading into the third quarter, but Crown began the half on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 8. The rest of the quarter was about even as the Polars kept the game within reach, trailing by just ten points at the start of the fourth quarter. The game was within reach most of the fourth quarter, but a quick 8-0 run with around 5 minutes left in the game put it out of reach as the Polars lost by a score of 52-72.
Brayli Reimer finished the game with a double double, pulling in 10 rebounds on top of an impressive scoring night finishing with 23 points on 41.7% shooting.
Avery Youngblood finished with 9, while
Isabelle Sager and
Sydney Cotten each had 8. Sager also had 14 rebounds, 6 of those being on the offensive end. Sager's work on the boards led the Polars to 13 second chance points. The Polars also dominated points in the paint, outscoring the Dutch 22-16.
Crown will be back at home on Tuesday, November 11 at 7:00pm to host St. Olaf, and then again on Thursday to host Luther College.
