Baseball Defeats Eagles 12-2 to Move to UMAC Championship Saturday After Loss to Yellowjackets

St. Paul, Minn. - The Polars Baseball team took on the UW-Superior Yellowjackets on Friday and fell 4-0 then defeated Northwestern 12-2 in 8 innings of play.

Another pitchers' duel was underway as Jacob Van Dam took the mound for Crown. The Polars earned a couple of base runners in the 5th inning after hits from Ethan Habetler and Howie Hatton. Despite that Crown was unable to plate any base runners and the score stayed at 0-0. A few scoreless innings went by until the bottom of the 8th inning when the Yellowjackets pushed across 4 runs. With their last at bats to come the Polars were unable to mount the comeback and fell 4-0.

Jacob Van Dam pitched 7 innings and only allowed 1 earned run. Habetler went 3-3 in the first game of the day to lead the offense. Hatton went 2-4 at the plate.

Crown then took on Northwestern in an elimination game. In the top of the first inning Mason Brock hit a solo home run to take the lead. Once again in the 2nd inning Crown put runs across to score 6 runs on 4 hits. From there on our Ryan Vondracek was almost lights out as he gave up just 1 earned run through 8 innings on the mound. The Eagles scored a couple of runs but Crown was able to take home the 12-2 win after 8 innings of play.

Rhys Dewick totaled 4 hits and 5 RBI's in game two. Both Tyler Bloom and Mason Brock drove in 2 runs each. Crown as a team stole 6 bases on route to the victory.

The Polars next will face off with UW-Superior in the UMAC Championship with Crown needed to take home two wins due to the double elimination factor of the tournament. The Polars take on the Yellowjackets at 1pm tomorrow May 11th with the possible game two at 4pm.
