Polars Baseball Clinches UMAC Playoff Spot After Sweep of Knights

New Ulm, MN - The Polars baseball team defeated Martin Luther by scores of 3-1 and 12-4.

A Howie Hatton triple and Bryan Gerbers singled to drive in the first run of the game. An error, double from Hatton, and a sacrifice fly from Ashton Long gave the Polars the 3-0 lead in the third inning. After 5 more scoreless innings the Knights pushed across a run in the 8th inning. Crown set down the Knights in the 9th and took home the 3-1 victory.

Ryan Vondracek pitched a complete game scattering 7 hits across 9 innings and only allowing 1 earned run. Hatton and Tyler Bloom both totaled 2 hits in the contest. Bloom and Drew Girtz both had a stolen base.

Four hits in the 1st inning gave Crown the 2-0 lead. The Polars opened up the game with a 4 run 4th inning as Crown took the 6-2 lead. The lead was extended in the 6th and 7th inning after a Hatton home run and a number of walks. Martin Luther pushed across a couple runs but Crown came out on top 12-4.

Hatton went 3-5 and totaled 5 RBI's in game two. Ethan Habetler also totaled 3 hits on 4 at bats. Rhys Dewick, Mason Brock, and Gerbers all added multi-hit efforts. Jacob Van Dam earned the win in game two with 7 innings pitched and 3 earned runs allowed. 

The Polars move to 15-16 on the season and 13-5 in UMAC play and will play one final non-conference game at St. Johns before the final conference series against Northwestern at home next weekend. Crown clinched a spot in the UMAC playoffs which will take place May 9th-11th.
