Madison, SD - The Polars men's basketball team faced off with Dakota State on Monday evening and came out on top 80-77.
Crown jumped out to an early 13-7 lead after five minutes of play. Three straight buckets from Dakota State flipped the scoreboard for the first lead change. After three more lead changes the Polars took the 32-31 lead after a basket from Tyrus Buckner. Crown held the 39-38 lead at the half.
The Polars extended their lead to 53-45 in early in the second half after three point shots from Carter Behne and John Grigsby. DSU clawed their way back into the game and evened the score at 65-65 with 7:56 to go. The score stayed within three points for the next couple minutes and clutch free throws from Micah Ladd and Grigsby closed out the contest for the Polars.
Grigsby led the offensive effort with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Buckner went 7-12 from the field and scored 19 points. The Behne brothers combined for 26 points and Ladd added 9 assists. As a team Crown shot 36.4% going 24-66 from the field and 36.8% going 14-38 from three point range.
Crown moves to 6-2 on the season and will next take on Trinity Bible on the road tomorrow December 10th at 5:30pm.
