St. Bonifacius, MN - The Polars Men's Basketball team faced off with the Northwestern Eagles on Saturday night and came out on top 91-67.
Cade Carroll started out the game with four straight made buckets and with a few from
Jacob Van Dam and
Jacob Masek Crown found themselves out in front 12-5 just four minutes into the contest. The Eagles answered right back and evened up the score at 15 a piece. A few minutes later Northwestern took their first lead of the game 21-17. Crown battled right back and tied up the score at 23-23. From there on out in the first half the Polars extended their lead throughout the half all the way to seventeen points before a late bucket from the Eagles set the score at 47-32 in favor of the Polars.
Northwestern brought the score to within ten a few times early in the second half but an electric second half performance gave the Polars a 28 point lead in the middle of the half. Crown held on from there on out and came out on top by a score of 91-67 for the seventh win over the Eagles since 2008.
Carroll led the scoring for Crown with 19 points and totaled 7 rebounds. Van Dam finished with 16 points,
Tyrus Buckner finished with 15 points,
Micah Ladd finished with 13 points, and
Jacob Masek totaled 10 points. Buckner led the rebounding with 8 boards and had a total of 5 blocks. Both Masek and Ladd totaled 5 assists.
Crown as a team shot 51.4% on the night going 36-70 from the field and 44% from three point range going 11-25. The Polars finished with 44 points in the paint and 18 points off of turnovers.
Crown moves to 12-4 on the year and 5-1 in UMAC play. They return home tomorrow to face off with North Central for a 4:45pm tip-off.
