Men's Soccer Drops UMAC Opener With Lumberjacks

St. Bonifacius, MN - The Polars Men's Soccer team started UMAC play on Wednesday with a home contest with the Northland College Lumberjakcs and fell 1-0.

In what was a defensive showdown, the first half saw neither team put a ball in the back of the net with only 3 total shots amongst the two teams in the first half. Joaquin Silva would be the only Polars player to get a shot off in the first half. Just over 11 minutes into the second half the Lumberjacks struck first from about twenty five yards out. An even match the rest of the way kept the score at 1-0. The Polars had one last chance after 5 shots, when a foul called in the last ten seconds, left Jose Lovera an opportunity to take a free kick just outside of the box. The Polars put everyone in the box and the ball in was deflected leaving the score at 1-0.

Crown had five different Polars take shots with Timmy Jackson and Sernia Batalla being the only two able to get shots on goal. Leo Roque played the full 90 minutes as the goalkeeper and totaled 2 saves.

Crown falls to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in UMAC play. They head on the road to take on the University of Northwestern Eagles on Saturday, September 16th at 5pm.
