St. Bonifacius, MN - The Crown College Polars Softball team faced off with the North Central Rams in a doubleheader on Saturday winning both by scores of 10-1 and 8-0.
A big weekend for Crown started out with a single from Maid Hecox and a two run home run from
Maria Lilienthal. Hits from
Ashley Earick and
Emmy Romportl scored one more in the third inning as Crown took a 3-1 lead. A seven run, seven hit fourth inning propelled the Polars to victory as they came out on top 10-1 after five innings of play.
Abbie Carroll took the mound and pitched a five inning complete game only allowing one earned run on three hits.
Madi Hecox,
Maria Lilienthal, and
Aletheia Fisher all grabbed two hit games.
Morgan Aylsworth and
Emmy Romportl both notched 2 runs batted in.
Game two was just as exciting for Crown as the Polars scored four in the first inning and
Itzel Valles homered driving in three of the four RBI's of the inning. One run in the second, third, and fourth innings gave the Polars a 7-0 lead. Crown tacked on one more run in the 7th after hits from Valles and
Catelyn Garza and Crown took the victory 8-0.
Romportl pitched a shutout game two scattering three hits across 7 innings in the circle and allowed no runs. Romportl also struck out 10 batters in the process.
Ashley Earick went 3-4 on the day with Valles, Garza, and Romportl all added two hits each.
Following the two wins today, Crown clinched a spot in the UMAC tournament for the first time since 2018. The Polars move to 12-27 on the season and 9-12 in conference play. Crown will head to the UMAC tournament in Mankato, Minnesota starting on Thursday, May 11th with a chance at a UMAC Championship.
