Morris, MN - The Polars faced off with both the North Central Rams and the UM-Morris Cougars on Saturday as they split, defeating the Rams 16-3 and falling to the CougarsĀ 5-3.
The Polars offense started game one hot from the first inning on, as Crown totaled 7 consecutive hits contributing to the 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. After two runners reached in the bottom of the second inning, a sacrifice fly from
Catelyn GarzaĀ scored one followed by a single from
Morgan AylsworthĀ that gave the Polars a 9-0 lead. Crown ran with the lead and won by a score of 16-3 totaling seventeen hits.
Emmy Romportl started on the mound and secured her fourth win of the season. Romportl only allowed 2 earned runs on six total hits. Romportl,
Itzel Valles, and
Ashley Earick all notched three hits in the effort.
Game two started with an early 3-0 from Minnesota Morris as Crown wasn't able to answer back until the top of the 4th inning.
Madi Hecox led off the inning with a single and she was followed with a sacrifice bunt from
Ashley Earick. A double from
Emmy Romportl gave Crown their first run as the score was 3-1 in the Cougars favor. Clutch hitting from the top of the order from Crown and the likes of Romportl and
Maria Lilienthal tied the game up at 3-3 going into the bottom of the 6th inning. A home run from the Cougars and a few hits gave Morris the 5-3 lead and Crown was unable to complete the comeback falling 5-3.
Abbie Carroll pitched in the contest and took the loss. Romportl and Lilienthal both accomplished two hit games in the contest.Ā
Crown moves to 10-25 on the season and 7-10 in UMAC play as the Polars sit in a three way tie for 4th in the conference. The Polars return to action against the Bethany Lutheran Vikings at home on Tuesday with game times set at 3:30pm and 5:30pm.
