Softball Falls to UW-Superior in Doubleheader

Superior, WI - The Crown College Polars Softball team faced off with the UW-Superior Yellowjackets on Tuesday falling by scores of 4-1 and 11-2.

Game one saw a very competitive matchup as took the first lead of the game in the 3rd inning after two scoreless innings. A double from Morgan Aylsowrth, walk from Madi Hecox, and a single from Maria Lilienthal gave Crown a 1-0 lead. The Yellowjackets scored 4 unanswered runs over the course of the next few innings and Crown wasn't able to put any more runs on the board leaving 8 runners on base in the final 4 innings and Crown fell by a score of 4-1.

Six Polars all notched a hit in the first contest. Madi Hecox went 1-1 with 3 walks on the game with the lone RBI going to Maria Liliental. Abbie Carroll pitched the full six innings and only allowed 1 earned run in the game on 8 hits.

The Yellowjackets scored 10 runs in the first inning of game two to put Crown behind early. Crown was able to notch two runs in the top of the 5th inning on multiple hits but were unable to overcome the large deficit as the Polars fell 11-2 in 5 innings. Abbey Underdahl, Emmy Romportl, and Abbie Carroll all pitched in the contest.

The Polars fall to 9-23 on the year and 6-8 in UMAC play as Crown holds on to the 4th spot in the conference with a crucial weekend ahead. The Polars will head to Minnesota Morris for the second part of the UMAC Crossover. Crown will take on Minnesota Morris, Northwestern, and North Central with the first game taking place at 2pm on Friday against the Cougars.
