Shaugabay and Becker Total 6 Hits and 8 RBI's, Baseball Defeats Morris 11-3

St. Paul, MN - The Crown College Polars Baseball team faced off with the Minnesota Morris Cougars on Tuesday in St. Paul, MN in a last minute rescheduled game. Crown defeated the Cougars 11-3 to win the season series and push the Polars to first in the UMAC.

After a quiet first two innings the Polars pushed across the first run of the game after a Seth Betts single, stolen base, and a few ground outs allowing Betts to score. Morris answered back in the bottom half of the inning to even up the score at 1-1. The Crown bats woke up in the middle innings as Cael Magill singled to start the 5th inning. Betts walked and Dewick singled to score 2 runs. Mason Brock reached on a hit by pitch and Jack Becker walked. A bases clearing double from Matthew Shaugabay drove in three runs to give Crown the 6-1 lead. Hits from Jack Becker and Shaugabay once again brought in a few more Polars runs as Crown stretched the lead to 9-1. A run from Morris in the 6th and the 7th cut the lead to 9-3. Three hits in the 9th and Crown scored 2 more to put the score at 11-3 and that's where the score stayed as Crown took home a win to win the season series with the Cougars.

Jack Becker and Matthew Shaugabay both added three hits on the day with Shaugabay totaling 6 RBI's and 3 doubles. Seth Betts and Rhys Dewick both added 2 hits each in the effort. Tyler Bloom started on the mound and pitched 4 innings only allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run. Jacob Worley added his 3rd win of the year as he pitched 2 innings of baseball. Jacob Van Dam shut the door on the Cougars pitching 3 innings of baseball only allowing 2 hits in the process and getting his 3rd save of the year.

The Polars scored more than ten runs for the 15th time this season and will head to Bethany Lutheran for arguably the biggest series of the year as both the Vikings and the Polars sit atop of the UMAC standings. The Polars first game with the Vikings is on Friday April 28th at 3pm in Mankato, MN.
