St. Bonifacius, MN - The Crown College Polars Softball team faced off with the Northland College Lumberjills on Monday and split the games losing game one 15-7 and won game two 8-0.
Northland started game one scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Crown answered right back in the bottom half of the inning scoring two of their own runs after hits from
Madi Hecox,
Emmy Romportl, and
Catelyn Garza. A walk, a stolen base, and a few situational at bats brought the score to 4-3 Northland in front. The Lumberjill offense scored 11 runs in the next three innings and the Crown offense was able to score four runs but not enough to cut the deficit and Crown dropped game one 15-7.Â
Madi Hecox,
Maria Lilienthal, and
Aletheia Fisher all notched multi-hit efforts to lead the Crown offense.
Emmy Romportl started on the mound for the Polars and pitched 2.2 innings and
Abbey Underdahl pitched 2.1 innings. The Polars totaled seven runs on 9 hits in the first contest.
Game two saw Crown lead the whole game scoring 5 runs in the first two innings and didn't look back from there. A
Maria Lilienthal triple and an
Itzel Valles doubles headlined the first inning. Three hits from Aylsworth, Hecox, and Earick in the bottom of the second inning gave Crown a 5-0 lead. Four hits and three stolen bases contributed to Crown's 3 run 4th inning and the Polars defeated the Lumberjills 8-0 in five innings.
Hecox, Earick, and Aylsworth contributed to the Polars win as they totaled 6 hits, 2 apiece, in the contest. Crown stole 8 bases in the contest adding to their program best team steals record.
Abbie Carroll was tremendous on the mound pitching 5 innings of softball allowing 0 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 4 batters as Carroll found her 5th win of the season.
The Polars move to 9-21 on the season and 6-6 in UMAC play, right in the hunt for the UMAC playoffs as they currently sit in 4th place in the conference. They return to action this week against Wisconsin-Superior tomorrow in Superior, WI at 1:30pm and 3:30pm.Â
