St. Bonifacius, MN - The Polars Softball team faced off with the Martin Luther knights in game one and took the 17-6 victory. Game two Crown fell to Bethany Lutheran by a score of 13-0.
The start of the rainy Saturday saw Martin Luther draw first blood scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Six straight hits from the Polars gave Crown the edge 6-2 including an
Itzel Valles home run. Martin Luther was able to notch one more run in each of the next two innings. The Polars offense stayed hot in the next two inning scoring 5 runs on 5 hits giving Crown a 11-4 lead. Six more runs from Crown and a silent top half of the 5th inning gave Crown the victory in 5 innings by the score of 17-6.Â
Maria Lilienthal and
Emmy Romportl both were perfect in the batter's box going 4-4 and 3-3 with a combined 6 runs batted in.
Maliya Martinez also went 2-2 with 2 walks on the day. Crown as a team totaled 15 hits in the contest.
Emmy Romportl pitched 5 innings and only allowed 7 hits.
Bethany Lutheran gave Crown some struggles from the first pitch as teh Vikings did not give up a hit in the contest. Thirteen runs from the Vikings was enough to defeat Crown in five innings with the final score at 13-0.
Ashley Earick and
Abbey Underdahl pitched for Crown in the second contest of the day.
The Polars move to 8-18 on the season and 5-3 in UMAC play. Crown will face off with the Northland College Lumberjills on Wednesday for a doubleheader starting at 3:30pm.
