New Ulm, MN - The Crown College Polars Softball team faced off with the Martin Luther Knights on Tuesday and won both by scores of 8-6 and 10-3.
A three run first inning gave Crown an early lead in game one. Singles from
Catelyn Garza,
Emmy Romportl, and
Maria Lilienthal loaded the bases up.
Ashley Earick stepped up to the plate and drove three runs with a bases clearing triple. Martin Luther however swung the game in their direction scoring 6 unanswered runs to put the Polars down 6-3. A quiet 4th, 5th, and 6th innings brought the Polars back up for their final at bats in the first contest. A leadoff walk from Earick and back to back doubles from
Morgan Aylsworth and
Madi Hecox cut the Knights lead to 6-5. A walk and three straight singles for Crown gave the Polars an 8-6 and it would stay there giving Crown the victory.
Maria Lilienthal led the offense with three hits in four at bats.
Emmy Romportl and
Morgan Aylsworth both notched two hits in the contest. The Polars totaled 11 hits as a team.
Emmy Romportl pitched a complete game and scattered 8 hits only allowing 2 earned runs in the contest getting her second win of the season.
Crown's bats started hot out of the gate scoring three runs in the first off of a walk and two hits. A huge top of the second saw Crown score five more runs after a six hit inning. The Knights notched one run in the second and two in the bottom of the third. Two more runs from Crown gave the Polars a 10-3 lead and they cruised to a two game sweep of Martin Luther.

Maliya Martinez,
Aletheia Fisher totaled 2 hits each.
Abbey Underdahl notched her first win after pitching 2.1 innings.
Abbie Carroll also pitched for Crown totaling 4.2 innings pitched and not allowing any earned runs.Â
Crown moves to 6-16 on the season and 3-1 in the UMAC as they are set to host the UMAC Crossover at Crown with games on both Friday and Saturday against UW-Superior, Northland, Martin Luther, and Bethany Lutheran.Â
