St. Paul, MN - The Crown College Softball team faced off with the Minnesota Morris Cougars on Monday winning game one by a score of 5-3 and fell in game two 4-3.
Crown notched the first three runs of the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Hits from
Catelyn Garza and
Emmy Romportl scored the first run of the game. A sacrifice fly from
Itzel Valles scored the second run of the game and a
Maliya Martinez single drove in the third run. Morris answered right back and tied the game up at 3-3 in the top of the 4th inning. Hits from
Madi Hecox and
Catelyn Garza put two runners in scoring position. An error, hit by pitch, and a sacrifice fly scored two runs for Crown. Two scoreless innings bought up Morris for their final at bats of the game. A walk and a hit gave Morris life, but
Emmy Romportl was able to shut it down and the Polars won 5-3.
Catelyn Garza led the way offensively for Crown in game one going 3-4 with an RBI.
Madi Hecox and
Maliya Martinez were both able to notch multi hit games as well.
Emmy Romportl pitched a complete game scattering 8 hits and struck out 2 batters.Â
The Polars once again took an early lead in game two. A leadoff single from
Madi Hecox and a stolen base put her in scoring position.
Itzel Valles drove a rocket down the left field line to score Hecox for the first run of the game.
Maria Lilienthal also doubled on the next at bat to make the score 2-0. Morris was able to score one run in the 4th inning to cut the Polars lead to 2-1. A few hits, an error, and a passed ball gave Crown a 3-1 lead. Morris once again answered back but not until the top of the 6th tying the game at 3-3. The cougars held Crown in the bottom half of the sixth and got one more run across to take the 4-3 lead and it would stay there as Crown fell in game two.
Maria Lilienthal totaled 3 hits in game two and 1 RBI. Emmy Romprotl was also able to notch a multi hit game going 2-3.
Abbie Carroll pitched a complete game and allowed 4 earned runs and 8 hits on 82 total pitches.
The Polars move to 4-16 on the season and 1-1 in UMAC play and will face off with the Martin Luther College Knights in a doubleheader Tuesday, April 11th at 3:30pm and 5:30pm.
