Carroll Strikes Out 13, Romportl and Hecox Total 8 Combined Hits as Softball Sweeps Sabercats

St. Paul, MN - The Crown College Polars Softball team faced off with the Maranatha Baptist Sabercats on Friday and came out on top in both games with scores of 13-5 and 13-2.

Maranatha Baptist scored the 4 first runs of the game, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning off of four hits. Crown answered back with one run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to set the score at 4-1. The Polars offense got going in the second inning with a Morgan Aylsworth single and Emmy Romportl double scoring two runs to cut the Sabercats lead to 4-3. The Crown offense did not slow down with four more runs tacked on in the bottom of the third to take their first lead of the game. Hits from Madi Hecox, Emmy Romportl, and Itzel Valles contributed to the big inning. Four straight singles for Crown in the bottom of the fifth inning pushed Crown's lead to 9-5. A Catelyn Garza double and a Romportl single gave Crown a 13-5 lead and the Polars came out on top 13-5 after 6 innings of play and an eight run rule victory.

Emmy Romportl went 4-4 in game one with 2 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Itzel Valles notched a 3-3 day and Madi Hecox also grabbed a multi-hit performance going 2-4 with 2 runs batted in as well. Ashley Earick notched her first win of the season in the pitchers circle after throwing a complete game. Earick allowed 4 earned runs on 7 hits and totaled 6 strikeouts on the day on 94 pitches.

Maranatha started the scoring in the first again scoring one run after a hit by pitch and a triple. Three Polars would score in the bottom of the 1st inning of of 2 walks and 2 hits. Hecox led off the inning with a single and a few stolen bases found Hecox crossing home plate. A single from Maria Lilienthal and a sacrifice bunt from Maliya Martinez drove in the other two to give Crown a 3-1 lead. Crown's offense exploded in the second inning scoring 7 runs. Aylsworth started off the rally with a leadoff triple. back to back doubles from Hecox and Garza scored a few. After a few walks, Aylsworth sent a bases clearing triple into right field to tack three more runs on the board. An Aletheia Fisher single tacked on one more. The inning would end after Crown was able to extend the lead to 10-1. Four more players came around to score in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings for Crown and the Polars would win game two by a score of 13-2.

Abbie Carroll pitched one of the performances of the year pitching 5 innings for the complete game, totaling a massive 13 strikeouts and only allowing 2 hits in the contest. Hecox and Fisher both had multi-hit games with Hecox going 2-2 and Fisher going 2-3.

The Polars move to 3-15 on the season and will have a short break before returning to action on Wednesday, April 5th to open UMAC play with a doubleheader scheduled for their home opener against the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars at 2:30pm and 4:30pm.
